what is the meaning of intent is not magic?
It makes the difference between murder and manslaughter. Why is it a meme in the Social Justice sites?

Unfortunately, this is the number one reason that topics get derailed over there. A user (usually a newbie) makes the blunder, a dog pile happens, the newbie doubles down, and then gets suspended or banned and the discussion halts.

When a well-meaning, generally conscientious person accidentally says or does something that's hurtful to an oppressed group, and the oppressed group reacts with appropriate anger, the well-meaning person is faced with a cognitive dissonance. They think of themselves as a good person, good people don't hurt oppressed people, but the oppressed people are acting like they've been hurt. There are several paths out of this cognitive dissonance: one is to decide that the oppressed people are way overreacting: they can't have really been that hurt, or maybe they are but what you're saying is so important to say that it justifies the hurt. Another, which often overlaps with that, is to insist that what you meant is all-important: if you weren't trying to hurt them, you're clearly not a bad person, so they shouldn't be yelling at you.

I am not sure what you mean, but I am going to interpret your question to mean, "what do you want for this forum?" Please correct if I am wrong.
What I would like to see is no dog piles, one correction is enough and then let the topic continue. If the correction is disputed, that should be spun off to a new thread where the disputants can have at each other with gusto.

Sorry, I was joking.
"What do you want here?" is often asked of a newbie, just prior to getting dog-piled.

I am glad to hear that, for a moment I thought you might be one of the bullies from the safe place. But, did you notice I chose the best interpretation of your question and did not assume hostility? It's what adults do, listen up, Safe Space, you could learn something.

With 'friends' like this policing their discourse and keeping them down it's hardly suprising that these 'oppressed groups' are still oppressed.
Nothing could better illustrate which group are really the needy ones who need all discourse to be regulated.

I find it so refreshing to have a rational conversation, without all the histrionics.
