A message from Yassin, a Syrian in Edinburgh

Hundreds of my fellow Syrian students here in the UK may be sent back home to face detention and torture as I have, unless we come together right now to get the government to help them!

Last year, when I returned to Syria for a visit, I was tortured both physically and mentally. They told me they would find my wife and rape her in front of me, that they would kill my mother and dig up my father from his grave to urinate on him. Eventually they let me go, and I returned to Edinburgh to complete my studies. But they cut off my scholarship, as they have with hundreds of others, as a way to force us to return home.

We’re caught in a trap -- with no government support at home or abroad, many of us could be moments away from deportation. Every minute counts -- sign the petition calling on universities minister David Willetts to intervene so they can remain in the UK, then share this widely:
