Re: Are those people insane or just retarded?
I think calling those people insane or retarded would be an ad-hominen attack. I, personally, prefer to act better than that.
With that out of the way, the behavior of those people is certainly counter-productive, cliquish, bigoted, hypocritical, and often downright hateful.

Yep, no need for insulting them...
I prefer to think that the site rules are not conducive to rational discourse. You cannot establish a dialectic if there is no contra voice.
I think the biggest problem (and there are many) with that site is that there is an assumption that once you have been told you are wrong you are expected to cease the discussion. Failure to accept that you're wrong can result in a ban just to prevent further discussion.
Having an atheism plus fan club is fine by me. They're welcome to their safe space. I wish they would stop promoting it as a place to advance atheism. It's a place to share your love of atheism plus and have that love validated.
Lets bring the real debates to the free space and see what we can create...

Bear in mind that the written rules rarely come into effect for bans. They have a selection of rules that are evolving of their own accord. They are unlikely to write it down expicitly though.

It's also considered that if you get three or four people disagreeing with you, that is considered sufficient. A mod will issue a warning on that basis.

I would hope that the nastiness can be kept out. There's a few discussions here which have involved a degree of vituperation which is quite typical of the other forum - except that there a ban would happen pretty quickly.
